Tour
The East Neuk ( Corner ) Of Fife
I
was raised in the fishing village of Anstruther in the beautiful
and historic East Neuk. The East Neuk is string of beautiful fishing
villages which pepper the shoreline of the East Neuk ( the eastern
" corner " ) of Fife, stretching from Earlsferry to
the Fife Ness. Much of Scotland's medieval trade with Europe passed
through these ports, a connection reflected in the Flemish-inspired
crow-stepped gables of many of the cottages. Although the herring
industry has declined and the area is now a peaceful holiday center,
the sea still dominates village life.
The
East Neuk is an excellent " base " location, where you
can unpack, settle in for a few days, and have a temporary Scottish
home. Then you can take day trips to nearby places such as St
Andrews, Perth, Dunfermline, Edinburgh, Dundee and so on.
In
any of the East Neuk villages, even over just a few days, you
will get to know the people in your hotel and in the local shops
and pubs. When you become acquainted with a few of the ' locals,
' and are greeted by them when you meet in the street or hotel,
it will add a strong note of Scottish cheer to end each days activities.
